Tom Acciavatti bounced back from a long winter and a leg injury to claim the top spot in Diamond Eight’s Spring 2014 Straight Pool flight. The 15-week session saw seven players compete for prizes for the top three places and a wild card. It was a closer race than the scores seem to indicate with just a few matches making a big difference, especially in the last two weeks of the flight.
John Cromie and Mike Fitch’s battle for second came down to the last week. After a strong start, John seemed to lose his footing while Mike played confidently throughout to finish in second place behind Tom. John Cromie finished third. Longtime league member Frank Bogardus placed fourth after a strong session. Jim Graziane won the Wild Card drawing. Special thanks to all the guys for playing and being great sports throughout the flight, and for the past six years.

Thanks again for a fun flight!
Diamond Eight’s 9th annual Toys for Tots 8-Ball Tournament was a huge success, thanks to all of our very generous players! 28 league players from the area came together to benefit the local branch of the U.S. Marines Toys for Tots initiative. Many others stopped by to participate in the raffles and enjoy the home-cooked buffet. Two over-filled boxes of toys were collected and over $300 was raised, which will be used to purchase more toys for teens aged 13-15.
Congratulations to Ryan Brown and Larry Meliak, who defeated John Robinson and Arun N. in a good final match. Both teams played very well to reach the finals, in a very competitive field. Larry was able to strike the decisive blow with a 9-ball on the break! Nice shooting guys! Tied for third were Jeffrey Delefano and Pete Mitchell, and Val Williams and Mike Herlihey. Special thanks to Mike and Val who donated their winnings back to the Toys for Tots! Thanks guys!

Diamond Eight’s annual Toys for Tots 8-Ball Tournament was another huge success, thanks to all of our friends (old and new) who came to support the mission of Toys for Tots and ensure that the children of the Capital Region shared in the holiday spirit.
It was Chris and Ann Smith, and Jay D’Haene and Mike Yudin, who shared the 1st place victory for the 2009 edition, as they decided to forgo the final match and split the prize money. Both teams played extremely well throughout the day and deserve kudos for their great sportsmanship. The 8-Ball scotch doubles tournament saw 24 players matched up in pairs to compete in this fun event and enjoy the delicious buffet provided by Diamond Eight (great job Angela!). Thanks to everyone who came out to support Toys for Tots!
